Just like there is a lot of info on window film, there is also a lot of misinformation.  For this reason, we like to let our potential San Antonio clients know the amazing truth about the window films we install here at Custom Tint Solutions in San Antonio.  In our experience, one of the main barriers people have about installing window film on their San Antonio homes is they think it will be too dark or overly reflective. Which, unless you request it, they are not.  To get an idea of why more performance is not linked to the shade or reflectivity of window tint, read more about how these films work below.

How Window Film Works Without Being Dark

People tend to associate window film to curtains.  Lighter curtains let in more light, while darker curtains stop light almost completely.  This is a bad comparison because window film works on much more advanced technology. Read on to find out more about the two main leading window film mechanisms.

  1. Ceramic Window Film: A lot of window films are now made from ceramics. Especially the higher end ones.  These ceramic films actually absorb 99.9% of invisible UV rays while at the same time letting through nearly all visible light.  This means you get nearly full transparency and no shading what-so-ever. These films are referred to as spectrally selective–meaning they are engineered to sort through specific sun rays for the clarity and function.
  2. Reflective Window Tint:  Just like the name says, this type of window film reflects the sun’s UV rays back away from the window.  This reduces solar heat gain and glare. Today’s reflective window films can be very clear or very dark, depending on your preference.  The opacity level is up to you. You don’t need a darkly tinted window film for it to be effective either. Because, regardless of which look you go for, these films are still highly effective.

In today’s era, window films and tints are something that any home or business can have applied without any loss of clarity, darkening or windows or very reflective appearance.  To find out which window film may work well on San Antonio home, contact us today to review the issues you need resolved with one of our experts!
